Cipro

Cipro is used for bacterial infections and patients having skin, bone, joint and lung infections. It contains moxifloxacin as an active ingredient.

Indications

Cipro is used in airway infections, chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, bacterial sinusitis and infections of skin and bones.

Working mechanism

Cipro tablets contain ciprofloxacin which is also called as quinolone antibiotic. To treat the infection which caused by the bacteria, antibiotics are given. Infections are spread by bacterial enzymes such as a DNA- Gyrase bacterium is multiplied & infection goes on increasing. Ciprofloxacin enters the bacterial cells & inhibit the action bacterial enzyme. When enzyme will not work, then bacteria will not reproduce & ultimately it kills the bacteria. Different kinds of bacteria’s are killed by ciprofloxacin which causes many kinds of infections of airways such as sinusitis. It can also kill Chlamydia.

Contraindications

It is contraindicated in pregnancy less than 18 years of age bradycardia, in impaired liver function and in hypokalemia.

Interaction with other drugs

The interactions of this drug must be recognized before taking this medicine. The doctor must know the herbal drugs, supplements that you are and have been on before you ask his advice on this drug. If you develop or experience any kind of allergy while taking this medicine, you must immediately contact your doctor and consult him for continuation or stoppage of this remedy. There are drugs which you should not combine with this medicine as they will reduce the effectivity of the drug or alter it to cause adverse reaction.

This medicine if takes with other drugs because it can cause abnormal heart rhythms. It is avoided with antidepressants, antipsychotics, antimalarial and antimicrobial drugs. Also antihistamines can cause bad reaction. Blood potassium levels can be lowered with the beta against bronchodilators like salbutamol, diuretics and corticosteroids like prednisolone. Antacids should not be taken for 6 hours after taking this drug.

Side effects

Some drugs will cause side effects if you take it in excess amounts or for prolonged period. The side effects give here are on an individual basis some patients may experience rare side effects and some may experience common side effects may appear in the patients consuming this drug. It can cause uncommon side effects like arrhythmias, angina, tremors, insomnia, confusion, anxiety, dehydration, number tingling and anesthenia.

Common: Headache, Nausea, vomiting, Dizziness, Candidiasis, Abdominal Pain Diarrhea,

Rare: Fainting, seizures, Kidney Failure, Hyperglycemia.

Precautions

Should not be given to people above 60 years of age, who have lung, heart a kidney transplant, who use corticosteroids, who suffers from epilepsy who are having myasthenia gravis.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The consequences of the certain drugs are not recognized in pregnant woman and their impact has not been studied thoroughly in woman doing breastfeeding and in the infants. This may produce adverse effects for both mother and infant. Hence, every drug must be taken with caution. The passage of this drug into the milk may or may not occur, therefore should not be given until prescribed by physician and the impact of this drug have not been studied in pregnant women. Therefore, any drug should be considered carefully in both these conditions.

Not to be given to a pregnant mother because it is harmful to a baby breastfeeding mothers should not use this medicine as it may pass into breast milk.
