Product Information![]() AmarylAmaryl Amaryl is used for non-insulin dependant diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) and patients having type II diabetes. It contains glimepiride as an active ingredient. Amaryl IndicationsAmaryl is used for non-insulin dependant diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or Type II diabetes and in patients who can’t control their blood sugar with dietetic constraints. Amaryl Working mechanismAmaryl consists of glimepiride as an active ingredient. It belongs to sulphonylurea group of drugs. Amaryl will increase the amount of Insulin released in blood. Insulin is hormone which will reduce the amount of blood sugar. In patients having NIDDM, the insulin levels are insufficient to control the blood sugar levels and these levels increase suddenly after the meals. Amaryl reduces the sugar by stimulating insulin producing beta cells in the pancreas. The glucose is sent to the muscles and fat cells and liver is suppressed and glucose production is stopped. Amaryl ContraindicationsIt is contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding and patients allergic to sulphonamide, sulphonylurea, and ketoacidosis, in Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, in kidney and liver failures and in children. Amaryl Interaction with other drugsThe blood sugar is excessively decreased when combined with sulphonamide, phenylbutazone, insulin, fluconazole, disopyramide, MAOI antidepressant and ACE inhibitors symptoms of low blood sugar are reduced with beta blockers. The effect of Amaryl decreases with corticosteroids, danazol, antipsychotic drugs, somatropin, lithium, diuretics, and protease inhibitors. Amaryl Side effectsAmaryl can cause hepatitis, cholestasis or jaundice, weight gain, excessive hypoglycaemia and diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, constipation related to the alimentary tract. Different side effects may occur related to urine of the patient. These include change in urine color to dark urine which can be on account of jaundice. The stools may become clay colored, appetite can become suppressed and constipation can occur. Amaryl PrecautionsUse the drug carefully in patients having G6PD deficiency, thyroid disorders, adrenal disorders and reduced liver and kidney function. Don’t use in very small children and old patients. Amaryl Pregnancy and BreastfeedingThe drug is not recommended for gestating women and insulin is used during pregnancy. Amaryl is known to pass into the mother’s milk and this can lower the blood sugar of the infants. The drug may pass through the placenta too and can hamper the carbohydrate metabolism required for the fetal growth to take place. Do not take the drug until your doctor prescribes it. |
