used hair loss and patients having male pattern baldness. It contains
finasteride as an active ingredient. Indications Propecia is
used for androgenic alopecia or male pattern hair loss. It used
in treating hair loss occurring due to any cause except in patients
having hair loss with enlarged prostate. Working mechanism Propecia contains
finasteride as an active ingredient. Finasteride is a 5-alpha
reductase inhibitor. 5-alpha reductase in an enzyme present in males
which converts testosterone into Dihydrotestosterone or DHT. Propecia
reduces the amount of DHT by inhibiting the action of 5-alpha reductase
and this will finally reduce the balding process. There can be new hair
growth in the bald areas and even hair can come back totally. Contraindications Propecia is
contraindicated in patients having benign prostatic hyperplasic or BPH,
galactose intolerance and in women and children. It should not
be indicated in patients having allergy to finasteride. Interaction with other drugs The interactions of this drug must be recognized before taking this medicine.
